Search engines are basically computer algorithms which help users find the specific information they’re looking for. With literally trillions of pages of information online, without effective search engines, finding anything on the Internet would be almost impossible. Different search engines work in different specific ways, but they all utilize the same basic principles.
The first thing search engines have to do in order to function is to make a local database of, basically, the Internet. Early search engines just indexed keywords and titles of pages, contemporary search engines index all of the text on every page, as well as a great deal of other data about that page’s relation to other pages, and in some cases all or a portion of the media available on the page as well. Search engines need to index all of this information so that they can run searches on it efficiently, rather than having to run around the Internet every time a search query is sent.
Search engines create these databases by performing periodic crawls of the internet. Early search engines often required pages to be submitted to them in order to crawl them, but now most pages are found by following links from other pages. What are called robots or spiders, computer programs built to index pages, flit from page to page, recording all of the data on the page, and following every link to new pages. Different search engines refresh their indexes at different intervals, depending on how many spiders they constantly have crawling, and how fast those spiders crawl, with some working their way through the internet every day or two, and others only doing a periodic refresh every week or month.
As the spider goes through these pages, it records the words it finds on the pages. It makes notes about how many times each word appears, whether the words are weighted in certain ways, perhaps based on size, location, or HTML markup, and decides how relevant the words are based on the links that come in to the page, and on the general context of the page.
Search engines then must weight the value of each page, and the value of each page for the words that appear on it. This is the trickiest part of what a search engine has to do, but also the most important. At the most simple level a search engine could simply keep track of every word on the page, and record that page as relevant for searches with that keyword. This wouldn’t do much good for most users, however, as what is desired is the most relevant page for their search query. So different search engines come up with different ways of weighting importance.
The algorithms that various search engines use are well protected, to prevent people from specifically creating pages to get better ranks, or at least to limit the degree to which they can do that. This difference is why different search engines yield different results for the same terms. Google might determine that one page is the best result for a search term, and Ask might determine that same page is not even in the top 50. This is all just based on how they value inbound and outbound links, the density of the keywords they find important, how they value different placement of words, and any number of smaller factors.
The newest trend in search engines, and likely the future of search in general, is to move away from keyword-based searches to concept-based searches. In this new form of search, rather than limiting a search to the keywords you input, the search engine tries to figure out what those keywords mean, so that it can suggest pages to you that may not include the exact word, but nonetheless are topical to your search. This is still a developing field, but so far seems to have a lot of potential in making searches more relevant, making the web an even easier place to find exactly what you’re looking for.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION:
If you know the Internet and website development for all Asp.Net you unavoidably DataGrid, DataList, and repeater control in Asp.net will know about miracles. While each of these has its place, if you are only displaying data there is a much faster and more effective means to do so.
We say that an article that shows you the page one article is based on query string. An article stored in a database and stored in the database as a unique identity based on the article page appears.
Asp page to process a typical performance is something like this. Article ID based on code and database queries back information on that page where you display it in style that you want to. Adequately with the asp and straight forward approach is used all the time.
How do we speed up our asp.net pages?
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
There is some suggestion that works.
1. Use caching
you basically replaces the database each time the page loads querying database query only once and the system that results in cache is loaded. To retrieve data from constant load as the database page cache which you promote a very rapid and gives a demonstration disrupted says. Then how long you store your information with cash needed for many other facilities can set cache. If you are not using cash, you should be whenever possible.
2 If possible, do not use the standard Asp.Net controls
For faster page display asp.net control standards and are designed for development. They allow you to pages designed to capture and display data that is very fast but their actual performance because additional overhead and development for the ease and speed of execution time speed of page suffers from there.
Use either the user or better yet a Web Custom Control which controls the fastest performance wise and really is quite easy to create and use.
3. Use one or even better SqlDataReader yet for SQL Server data retrieval using a ground command and easily implement an order against that database.
An asp.net SqlDataReader is a fast forward only datareader that closes the connection after it reads the last set of results.
If you return more than 1 result, for example, content in your table, you would use the SqlDataReader because you different sets of results are returned.
Set based commands are stored procedures that take back data through parameters as opposed to a result set which then in turn needs to be looped through to get your data. So instead of writing your stored procedure like the following which brings back 1 result set.

How to Handle Bullies at Office
Bangalore: It is being observed that people who are oblivious to the dynamics of their work environment end up being the victims of office politics, reports Economic Times.
"The first thing to do is to become alert. Gauge other peoples' strengths and weaknesses and understand their insecurities because even the toughest group of bullies have their hot buttons," suggests Deepti Baliga, Behavioural Trainer and Psychologist.
If your boss plays favourites or your colleagues belittle you, dazzle them with your knowledge and performance. However, in case things get out of hand, DJ Chakravorty, VP Administration and PR, South City Projects, Kolkata advises, "If you have a problem with your boss, complaining to his/her senior is not a solution. Instead, wait for an appropriate moment to have a heart-to-heart talk with him/her. Explain how you feel and ask if there is something you could do to better yourself." This exercise will even give your boss a chance to voice his/her grievances while appreciating your honesty and willingness to learn.
Office goers need to understand that there are no permanent friends or enemies at workplace. In any specialised industry, people know each other and burning bridges will only spell doom. Baliga said, "You are not at work to make a family, don't get emotional, don't trust anyone completely and set your boundaries from the beginning."
Most 'victims' of office politics choose to quit their job or find other options in hope of finding an ideal workplace; this is a dream. "Such people keep switching jobs and sometimes face self-esteem issues. The important thing is to realise that every workplace has politics and you have to learn to handle it the right way," says Baliga. From a HR perspective, Chakravorty suggests that informal office parties are a good way to sort slight differences over a glass of wine. "It is also important to involve your family. For instance, you may not get along with your boss, but your spouse and his/her partner might," adds he.
In an office environment, everything comes around full circle. Sharmistha Deb, Assistant Manager, HR, says, "It is always important to react only after you get your facts right. Shooting off your mouth in anger even when you think you are right is never advisable."

India Outsourcing: Pay Is Down, Competition Is Up
IT workers are getting smaller raises and staying put as leaders TCS, Infosys, and Wipro face a revenue decline and a bigger fight for deals
For Americans looking at India's $58 billion IT and outsourcing industry with both envy and anger, here's a bit of news that might prompt a little schadenfreude: During a year spent languishing in the doldrums because of the global recession, India's largest outsourcing providers handed out the stingiest raises in more than a decade. And for Indian engineers with two to five years of experience, the past 12 months actually saw them lose nearly 7% of their income. The national average raise, according to a survey by IDC, the market intelligence firm, was about 1.4%, with most of the salary gains going to those with the most experience.
That's a big change from the boom years of Indian outsourcing, when wages rose regularly by double digits. They increased 18% in 2007-08 alone, and close to 30% per year for the five previous years. In an industry that was starved for experienced workers, employees could easily jump from job to job, getting more money each time. "I changed jobs three times [and] tripled my salary," says Rajdeep Chakravorty, 28, a software engineer in Noida, a suburb of New Delhi. Chakravorty (who asked not to reveal the name of his employer) makes $28,000 a year, about twice the average pay for software engineers in India.
Now, however, many Indian IT workers like him are worried about the future and choosing to stay put, dropping attrition rates to about 15%. They have good reason to be concerned. The 2010 fiscal year, which ends in March, will be the first time the industry's top players will see a revenue decline, according to their own predictions. Infosys (INFY), the No. 2 player, expects a 3.1% decline in revenue to about $4.5 billion, and Wipro (WIT), the No. 3 player, expects revenues for the quarter ended Sept. 30 to drop to $1.05 billion from $1.11 billion a year earlier. (Market leader Tata Consultancy Services (TCS.BO) does not provide revenue guidance.)

BPO companies free of labour laws for 2 years
BANGALORE: With IT firms buffeted by today’s turbulent times, the government has reached out a helping hand. Reciprocating their needs, it has
exempted IT/ITES and software establishments from the provisions of Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act 1946 (Central Act 20 of 1946).
These laws are strict on classifying workers, their working hours and shifts, the wages payable, besides other archaic rules on leave and attendance.
Head of HR in Infosys Technologies said, “We have antiquated labour regulations, which do not fit the requirement of the knowledge-based industry. This reform is necessary. We do not want inspector raj here, what we want is more such reforms across industries.’’

UBS's report 'Prices and Earnings' is a global review of the prices of goods and services, wages, payroll taxes, working hours and purchasing power in 73 cities on every continent. The survey also pointed out that earnings do not just differ from country to country but also vary among employers within a single city. However, the earnings gap between public and private-sector jobs is particularly stark in emerging and developing countries, it added.

Windows 7 free ride over on August 20
Bangalore: August 20th is the last date to download the "release candidate" version of Windows 7, after which its free downloading will be discontinued. Microsoft, which has been providing free, unlimited downloads of the candidate version till now, plans to put Windows 7 on sale in about two months, reports CNET News.
Windows Communications Manager, Brandon LeBlanc said in a blog posting this week, "After that date, you will still be able to register your product and get registration keys, but the media will no longer be available for download."
However the release candidate will only work through early next year. On June 1st, the software will entirely expire and, starting March 1st, it will begin shutting down every two hours to remind users that the end is near.
A move from the release candidate to the final version requires a clean installation of the operating system, meaning backing up one's data, reinstalling Windows 7, and then restoring the data and reinstalling any applications.
Men smart while working with smarter women
New Delhi: "Man smart, Woman smarter", the catchy number sung by Harry Belafonte years ago may not be music for all men. According to a survey, 62 percent men are smarter while working alongside bold and aggressive women.
Conceptualized by TV channel CNN-IBN and conducted in several cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Patna, Bhopal, Pune, Kochi and Surat, the poll has taken views of men and women in the age group 18-50.
"It's a fact that women are more smart, informative and decisive and men are undoubtedly insecure. And I don't have any qualms in accepting that it becomes a pain most of the times working with such women because they constantly tend to circumcise your male ego knowingly or unknowingly," Ateet Aggarwal, a banker, told IANS.
"It becomes intolerable sometimes because at the end of the day there are huge ego hassles," he added.
Mumbai-based Chitresh Sinha agreed with Aggarwal and said: "When men work with women it's usually about proving themselves. It's a natural feeling and when you have a bold, aggressive woman working with you, it becomes much harder for men to prove themselves."
Adding to this, Zubin Kaul, a software professional, said: "I find it really uncomfortable to work with a female boss who is biased against men. They have this feeling that men are good for nothing and they look for opportunities to pull you down."
If we look at today's scenario - we have women at the top posts in every industry playing the lead role of a perfect boss to perfection. Some men feel that a female boss behaves like a "mad woman" if she is single.
"I had this bad experience of having a female boss who was single. She had no life of her own and wanted the staff to be in office till very late. She used to get these mood swings very often that it was very difficult to deal with her," recollected Randeep Singh.
"And things are very difficult to handle when it comes to dealing with a female boss. You just can't argue with them because you don't know how they will behave. Sometimes they are so adamant to prove themselves right that they refuse to even listen to your ideas," he added.
While some men find it really uncomfortable to work with bold women, PR executive Ankur Talwar has no problems working with aggressive women, but he feels that women "sometimes get hyper".
"I think women are great co-workers but at times they just get too hyper or emotional about a situation unnecessarily, which could have been dealt with a cool mind. Their reactions are always very surprising," explained Talwar.
In spite of the possibilities of having ego clashes and regular confrontations, mediaperson Biswadip Mitra doesn't mind working with tough female bosses, "as long as they don't violate office decorum".
"Honestly, I don't mind tough women as my boss or colleague as long as they do not violate office decorum or hurl insults. Simply because I am not used to insulting others. I can differ in my opinions, but there can be sober ways to express it," explained Mitra.

No tax cuts for companies that outsource: Obama
NEW DELHI: Indian companies received a bad news from US President Barack Obama on Wednesday, when, in his first address to the Congress, he said
that there will be no tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs. This move, if pushed into legislation, will hurt India's BPO sector and if Obama lifts tax breaks, he will make it unattractive for US companies to outsource jobs to India. Industry bodies in India have said that the future poses big challenges for Indian IT companies after Obama's latest comment. Rajeev Chandrashekar, MP and President, FICCI said, "This poses yet another challenge for Indian IT and software companies that are growing in the US. In a way this is a natural exception of the US government trying to create a much more protectionist environment. This will pose a real challenge to Indian companies." Amit Mitra, Secretary General, FICC said that this is a matter of grave concern not only for India but for the US also. He said, "Perhaps what is wrong in this is, he may not have had the opportunity to read the literature of his own US Chamber of Commerce. When he does and if he does, he will know that he is really punishing American companies, not Indian companies only. Our sense is that this is something that has been in the offing. My feeling is that they are cutting their own nose to spite the phase." In his first speech to the joint session of Congress Obama had said, "In this budget, we will end education programs that don't work and end direct payments to large agribusinesses that don't need them. Well eliminate the no-bid contracts that have wasted billions in Iraq, and reform our defense budget so that were not paying for Cold War-era weapons systems we don't use."

THE NEW SEARCH ENGINE IS HERE: CAFFEINE
Bangalore: Google has unveiled the preview version of Caffeine, a new search engine technology which promises to "push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions."
The new search engine is the redeployment of the computing network that Google uses to connect searchers and results. The search engine can change how the company ranks in its search engine. The companies will have to change their Search Engine Optimization(SEO) to protect their Google ranking.Google is not changing the user interface as part of the Caffeine update. So the average user is not likely to be surprised by the way results appear. The update does not affect the ranking of ads on the search engine."For the last several months, a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google's web search, it's the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions," wrote the company blog."Google makes constant changes to its search algorithms and infrastructure, but such a change in this magnitude has not been done since 2006," said Matt Cutts, Principal Engineer, Google. The search page is identical to the classic, clean Google web page.Google is opening a web developer preview to collect the feedback regarding how Caffeine performs compared to its current search engine and is not looking for comparisons to offerings from rival internet firms.Microsoft has been praising the momentum of its recently-launched Bing search engine and is believed to take long term approach for closing the gap with Google. Microsoft has also announced a tie-up with Yahoo. Google has a two-third share in the search engine market, as Yahoo stands second and Microsoft at third in a search engine market.

Mahindra Satyam places 500 associates on bench
Auster Clientele Group, geared for big Challenges.....
Auster is all set to create 25000 jobs in country by this year end in the difficult times when all the biggies are putting their employee on bench. Are you really interested to know about the market conditions. Please go ahead....
Bangalore: Mahindra Satyam is ready to cut more flab to trim costs. After placing over 8,000 employees on the virtual pool, the company has now created a "corporate reserve" akin to a bench for over 500 associates. This move has sparked off the speculation about possible exit of senior-level employees in the Hyderabad based outsourcing firm, reports Economic Times.
The company said that the associates belonging to the enterprise business competency (EBS) and those in sales, relationships, operations management, programme management, delivery integration, solution frameworks and presales will reside in the corporate reserve till allocations are made.
T Hari, Chief People's Officer and Chief Marketing Officer, Mahindra Satyam said, "With a transition to the new organizational design, some of the erstwhile units like vertical business units and horizontal competency units will cease to exist. Employees who have not been allocated any portfolio yet in the new organization design will be placed in the unit called corporate reserve."
According to Hari, there would only be a few hundred associates in the corporate reserve. "We are aware of the inconvenience that this could cause for the small set of associates, but request your understanding given the complexities of this large-scale exercise," added Hari.
Earlier, the company had placed around 8,000 people on the virtual pool. Analysts think that the creation of a corporate reserve is similar to placing employees on the bench. Scam tainted Satyam had around 42,000 employees on its rolls when the firm was acquired by Pune based Tech Mahindra.

Google launches a major offensive against Microsoft
Bangalore: The clash between Microsoft and Google has turned more intense. First, Google announced its first operating system, Chrome. Then Microsoft announced the new version of Office with major cloud applications support. To increase its presence in the search engine market, Microsoft recently announced its deal to take over Yahoo's search business. Now, Google has announced the launch of its new promotional campaign called 'Going Google.'
The main target of 'Going Google' campaign is to topple Microsoft's hold in office applications. Google will soon launch a series of advertisements which will boast why some 3,000 organizations are signing up to use Google applications each day. Google claims that so far over 1.75 million businesses, schools and organizations have signed up to use the various combinations of Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and the other Google apps. Currently, Microsoft Office has the highest market share for office related applications. Google is trying to be proactive in telling people why its solution is better than Microsoft Office.
Google will be heavily investing in the 'Going Google' campaign and it plans to advertise through billboards on four major U.S. highways that will give a new message about Google apps everyday for a month. The billboards will be placed on the 101 in San Francisco, the West Side Highway in New York, the Ike in Chicago, and Mass Pike in Boston.
Google is also attempting to use Twitter platform to spread the 'Going Google' message. At the bottom of its blog post on the matter, Google urges people who use its apps to 'Tweet your story' and provides a link to auto-populate a tweet with the #gonegoogle hashtag. You can also follow the GoogleAtWork Twitter account to follow the Gone Google stories.
Google also plans to use 'Spread the Word' campaign, which will be similar to Mozilla's campaign to promote Firefox. Google will also try to use the conventional way of sending fliers and pre-populated emails to promote its 'Going Google' campaign.

Why we insist working on FTP SERVER?
FTP server is one of the fastest server ever known . Working on this server avoids compliance and misuse of vital datas of the customer. There are some other benefits as well like faster data processing, quick quality check which results in faster payment.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
is a standard network protocol used to exchange and manipulate files over an Internet Protocol computer network, such as the Internet. FTP is built on a client-server architecture and utilizes separate control and data connections between the client and server applications. Client applications were originally interactive command-line tools with a standardized command syntax, but graphical user interfaces have been developed for all desktop operating systems in use today. FTP is also often used as an application component to automatically transfer files for program internal functions. FTP can be used with user-based password authentication or with anonymous user access. The Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is a similar, but simplified, not interoperable, and unauthenticated version of FTP.Connection methods
FTP runs over the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).[1] Usually FTP servers listen on the well-known port number 21 (IANA-reserved) for incoming connections from clients. A connection to this port from the FTP client forms the control stream on which commands are passed to the FTP server and responses are collected. FTP uses out-of-band control; it opens dedicated data connections on other port numbers. The parameters for the data streams depend on the specifically requested transport mode. Data connections usually use port number 20.
In active mode, the FTP client opens a dynamic port, sends the FTP server the dynamic port number on which it is listening over the control stream and waits for a connection from the FTP server. When the FTP server initiates the data connection to the FTP client it binds the source port to port 20 on the FTP server.

Top outsourcing customers such as Bank of America and several local governments in the US are asking vendors such as Auster, TCS, Infosys and Wipro to deliver more projects locally. They are also rescinding job offers to foreign workers in an attempt to address anti-offshoring sentiments and cope with legislative requirements of the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP).

Citi, AXA, AOL and others have shed their wholly-owned Indian IT services subsidiaries. Analysts say sales of offshore captive centers may be more than just a sign of the recessionary times: The concept of owning an offshore services unit may have outlived its value for mostcompanies.(Vishwa Chand, CEO)
ome US lawmakers and think tanks believe that Africa can be a much cheaper alternative to call centers in India. The issue came up for discussion during a Congressional hearing on US-Africa Trade relations. “Is there any possibility of having call centers in Africa, in your opinion?” asked Congressman Donald Payne, at the joint hearing convened by Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
